The same EcoWater softener,
two very different purchases

You can buy EcoWater softeners in many online shops. MICHLOR is an Authorised EcoWater Dealer, so we sell the same unit, but with a completely different scope of service.

What is the Refiner?

Softening and filtration
in a single housing

A standard eVOLUTION softener removes water hardness (calcium, magnesium). The Refiner series goes a step further — the same housing holds a layer of ion exchange resin (softening) and a layer of activated carbon (filtration).

  • Layer 1 — ion exchange resin: removes the calcium (Ca²⁺) and magnesium (Mg²⁺) ions responsible for limescale
  • Layer 2 — GAC activated carbon: adsorbs chlorine, chloramines, pesticides and organic substances
  • A single pressure vessel — it saves space and needs only one plumbing connection
  • Shared salt regeneration — one tank refill serves both filtration media
  • Wi-Fi + the HydrolinkHome app — the same smart features as the eVOLUTION series

Refiner vs. eVOLUTION — which to choose and when

eVOLUTION (without filtration)

  • Mains water with normal chlorine levels (<0.5 mg/l)
  • Your only priority is softening — limescale on appliances
  • You want a higher flow rate on a smaller budget
  • You already have a separate carbon filter or osmosis unit in the kitchen
  • Well water with no chlorine or organic substances

eVOLUTION Refiner

  • Mains water with noticeable chlorine or odour
  • You want better-tasting and better-smelling water
  • Limited space — you want one unit instead of two
  • Water with elevated levels of organic substances
  • You want complete protection against both limescale and chlorine
2 models to choose from

eVOLUTION Refiner — models

Both models use the same platform — Wi-Fi, the HydrolinkHome app, softening plus activated carbon filtration. What differs is capacity and flow rate.

Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions about the Refiner

Is the Refiner better than a standard eVOLUTION?

The Refiner is not "better" — it is different. If your only problem is hard water (limescale on appliances and showers), a standard eVOLUTION is enough. If your mains water clearly smells of chlorine, or you want to improve its taste and quality throughout the house, the Refiner is the ideal all-in-one solution.

How long does the activated carbon in the Refiner last?

The activated carbon in the Refiner series is regenerated during every salt regeneration cycle — unlike single-use filters, which have to be replaced every few months. As a result the Refiner keeps adsorbing chlorine for many years without the filtration medium being replaced.

Does the Refiner replace an under-sink filter (osmosis, filter jug)?

The Refiner significantly improves water quality throughout the house — it removes hardness and chlorine. For drinking, however, you can still use an under-sink filter or a jug if you want the highest purity for consumption. Reverse osmosis may still make sense where nitrate levels or other contaminants are elevated.

What is the difference between the Refiner Boost and the Refiner Power?

Refiner Boost (capacity 31 °dH×m³, flow rate 0.9 m³/h) is designed for 2–5 people. Refiner Power (61 °dH×m³, flow rate 2.0 m³/h) will serve a larger house or a system with higher water use — it has twice as much ion exchange resin and carbon. Both have Wi-Fi and the HydrolinkHome app.

The Refiner is softening and filtration in one. If softening alone is enough, take a look at EcoWater eVOLUTION or the classic COMFORT+, and for help choosing, turn to our guide which softener model to choose.
